Master of Public Health
Accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the MPH program offers small class sizes and opportunities to work with faculty conducting research and practicing in diverse areas across the public health field.
Master of Public Health (MPH) specializations
The Master of Public Health has a core curriculum and specializations in the following three areas of public health:
Health and Administration Policy
The health administration and policy specialization prepares students for careers in public health leadership roles, focusing on health care systems management, finance and policy and legislative implications for public health problems and population health. Students learn how to manage public health programs, evaluate and inform public health policy and conduct research that helps shape public health systems.
Social and Behavioral Health
The social and behavioral health specialization is designed for students interested in health promotion, health education, and the prevention and reduction of health disparities over the life course. Social/behavioral health researchers and practitioners solve public health problems through public health policy, services and interventions at the individual, family, community and societal level.
MPH prerequisite coursework
*Completion of an undergraduate or graduate course in statistics.
*Students who did not graduate from an undergraduate program accredited by the Council on Education in Public Health must complete the Basics of Public Health course that covers the 12 Foundational Public Health Knowledge learning objectives. The Basics of Public Health course is completed for no academic credit and the student pays no fees or tuition for completing the course. This course should be completed before the start of the program.
Funding
This program is part of the Western Regional Graduate Program (WRGP), a tuition-savings program that makes out-of-state graduate studies more affordable for students. Through WRGP, you will receive a reduced tuition rate, giving you more educational options for your money.
Admissions and contact information
The priority application deadline for fall 2024 is February 1, with a final deadline of June 1. All materials (including official transcripts) must be submitted and verified in SOPHAS at least two weeks before the final deadline. Transcripts can be submitted before final grades are posted.
There is only one MPH cohort admitted each year.
